Excellent food. If you enjoy authentic German food, this is the place. Service is great. Call ahead, there aren't many tables and they encourage reservations. It's also cash only so you may need to stop at an atm. Desserts are also fantastic.
Outstanding, authentic, delicious. Very good menu. Service is a bit slow due to the size of the restaurant. I don't know how many tables there are, but it is very tiny. Seats (my guess) about 24 max. It is a family run business. The chef (Matriarchin) will help with table service and a son? and daughter wait tables. Very pleasant, folks and excellent help with menu selections. It is quite noisy because it is cramped. HOWEVER, it is a wonderful experience, a very nice family, fantastic food and well worth any possible inconvenience. If you don't have a reservation, don't just walk in. They appear to be well booked. Call a day or two ahead of time if you expect to get a table. We will definitely go back.
I love German food! Always have. My mom raised me on warm German potato salad and Spätzle and red cabbage and schnitzel and strudels and ....Anyhow this place is the real deal, excellent German fare and real attention to detail. Can't recommend it enough if you're looking for German food in Clearwater/St Pete's area. Only thing to note is they only accept cash and it's a rather small place so make reservations early! You won't be disappointed.
I'm a lover of ethnic food, but I have many confessions to make. First, I confess I'm not very experienced in German food. A bunch of us went to give German Bistro a try tonight. Second, I confess that reading the names & descriptions of the entrees at German Bistro really didn't have me very excited. For example there's Wiener Schnitzel which is simply described as breaded pork. And there's Pork Goulash that again doesn't read well. I chose the Pork Goulash & oh my goodness!!!! I have a third confession to make...the Pork Goulash is off the charts. It reminded me of a lean pot roast in an amazing & uniquely flavored sauce. The sauce or gravy contains vegetables seasoned with paprika & other savory seasonings. My fourth confession is I had no idea German food could be so tasty. The dish came with two sides. I ordered spaetzel & German potato salad. The spaetzel is like homemade noodles delicately seasoned. So good! I poured some gravy on it which took it to the next level. The potato salad has the distinct warmth & bite of vinegar associated with a traditional German recipe. It was de-licious. The meal serving size was generous, & the woman who runs the place has an awesome personality that is fun to mess with. She was so much fun. 5-stars for German Bistro!
I have dined here many times and it was always wonderful. So sad that they have closed. I wish the family well in retirement!
